TOP 6 THINGS TO DO IN CARY NC!
Looking for the absolute top things to do in Cary, North Carolina?
I’m Alison Wojnarowski with the W Real Estate Group, and as Raleigh’s largest suburb, there are many great things to do in Cary, NC to keep the whole family entertained.
Let’s jump right in.
Downtown
Starting with downtown, Cary has a mix of both historical and updated areas of downtown. It is a great place to take a stroll on a nice afternoon or under the lights at night and check out all of its’ amazing restaurants and breweries.
The Academy Street Bistro, Once in a Blue Moon Bakery, Esteamed Coffee, and Serendipity Gourmet Deli are all popular places right next to each other.
There are also multiple pizza places around in Di Fara Pizza Tavern, which most people say has the best NY style pizza in the whole area, and Pizzeria Faulisi, which has authentic Italian style pizza.
And there are multiple places to grab a drink in Bond Brothers, Bull City Ciderworks, and Cotton House Craft Brewers, which has a really cool atmosphere as its’ located in one of downtown Cary’s original houses.
The Mayton is also a 4 star hotel that is recommended if staying in the area, and inside is the unique Peck and Plume restaurant that has a unique feel of its’ own.
And if you like farmer’s markets, Cary has a nice one right in downtown.
And hands down Cary’s newest and most popular attraction is the recently opened Downtown Cary Park.
This amazing space has innovative playgrounds and water features, a grab and go cafe, an elevated skywalk over portions of the park, and an interactive dog park complete with a bar right next to it. It also has space for many pop up events, so keep your eye out.
Outdoor Recreation
While Cary’s downtown has so much to do in itself, perhaps Cary’s best feature is its’ elaborate park system and outdoor offerings, and that was even before the opening of the previously mentioned Downtown Cary Park.
With over 30 parks and 80 miles of greenway trails, Cary has a massive park system for its’ size and no matter where you live in Cary, you’re just minutes from one of these outdoors spaces.
Bond Park is one of its’ staples with plenty to do surrounding Bond Lake, playgrounds, sport fields, and a variety of walking trails. There’s even a high ropes course in the back.
And while technically in neighboring Morrisville, Lake Crabtree is large lake that like Bond Park, has plenty of walking trails and water recreation, but it also has an extensive mountain bike trail and skills area.
There so many other playgrounds for kids around the area that offer creative spaces for the kids, many of which offer plenty of shade during the summer months.
And Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve has over 3 miles of mulched trails to enjoy that take you to some really cool scenic overlooks, and per its’ name, there are plenty of large Eastern Hemlock trees.
Shopping
Moving on, Cary is also known for its’ great shopping centers. The newest space is Fenton, which is still expanding. With a variety of shops, eateries, and entertainment spaces, you can easily spend a day enjoying this brand new venue.
Cary Crossroads is a massive shopping center that has been around for a while, that has just about any and every store you could imagine.
And Park West on the edge of Cary and Morrisville is a newer shopping center with tons of places to eat and shop, and in the summer time, it holds monthly music festivals.
Sports
For sports lovers, there are a few areas of interest right in Cary.
The NCFC mens and Carolina Courage women’s soccer teams both play at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, which both make for a fun evening for those who enjoy soccer.
Cary has a USA Baseball Training Complex at its’ Thomas Brooks Park where the various USA baseball teams play and train.
And tennis lovers, you will be in paradise, as the Cary Tennis Center is massive with both indoor and outdoor courts.
Koka Booth Amphitheatre
Moving on, the Koka Booth Amphitheatre plays host to quite the variety of events year round.
The North Carolina Symphony and a wide variety of smaller musical acts come to play during the warmer months, and there are also special events like Asia Fest as well.
The famous Chinese Lantern Festival dominates the theatre during most of November through January, which is an incredibly popular event drawing visitors from across the state. This massive light display is a must do in the winter time.
Family Fun
Last up, Cary has some great places for the whole family to enjoy.
Phillips Farm is a popular outdoor venue that has fun and games for all ages.
It has farm themed slides, trampolines, sports games, and so much more.
One of the highlights is the apple launcher, where you test your aim across a pond with a high pressurized launcher.
And of course there are multiple hay rides and ATV pulls that have speeds suitable for all ages.
Over the moon is an indoor venue with a space theme geared towards younger kids, and has a really cool obstacle course.
And Angel Island Fun Park is another indoor play space with a large indoor playground, ball pit, and trampoline.
