RALEIGH NC ONE OF HAPPIEST IN NATION!
Raleigh NC is named one of the happiest cities in the nation! A recent study by WalletHub ranked 182 of the nation’s largest cities by emotional and physical well-being, income and employment, and community and environment to determine the happiest cities in the country.
So where did Raleigh NC fall? Raleigh came in as the 28th happiest city in America, ranking 9th overall in emotional and physical well-being, 126th in income and employment, and 99th in community and environment.

Raleigh NC is named one of the happiest cities in the nation! A recent study by WalletHub ranked 182 of the nation’s largest cities by emotional and physical well-being, income and employment, and community and environment to determine the happiest cities in the country.
So where did Raleigh NC fall? Raleigh came in as the 28th happiest city in America, ranking 9th overall in emotional and physical well-being, 126th in income and employment, and 99th in community and environment.
I’ll be honest, I’m pretty surprised that Raleigh ranked 126th in income and employment given that it’s one of the hottest job markets and best performing cities in the country. Raleigh’s income has been increasing, it has a very low unemployment rate, and plenty of great job opportunities.
One possible explanation is that the Research Triangle Park, of which many of the area’s best jobs are located, is technically in Durham NC, even though Raleigh borders it and many people who live in Raleigh work there.
Durham NC came in at #69 in income and employment, so my theory is that if you combined Raleigh’s income with Durham’s job market, which is most reflective of reality, you would get a much higher ranking. This would explain why the US News and World Report, which does combine Raleigh and Durham in their rankings, has the Raleigh-Durham area so high on their job market lists.
I’m not surprised by Raleigh NC ranking 9th overall in community and well-being though, as Raleigh is known for its’ high quality of life.
Also of note, Charlotte NC came in at #56 and Durham NC at #57 on the list, so North Carolina is ranked very well in this category.
You will notice in the graphic below that many of the cities with great weather that are many times thought of as vacation destinations did very well, as weather was a very high contributor to the rankings.
